The Hollywood Reporter Women in Entertainment Canada is delighted to announce that Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, Canada Media Fund, will receive the Glass Ceiling Award at this year’s inaugural event in Toronto on May 30. The award is being proudly presented in partnership with Shaftesbury.

The Hollywood Reporter Women in Entertainment Canada Glass Ceiling Award was created to recognize excellence in leadership in the Canadian entertainment industry from women role models who are setting the agenda and driving the industry forward.

Valerie Creighton is one of Canada’s most prominent entertainment industry leaders. Currently serving as President and CEO of the Canada Media Fund (CMF), Valerie is a tireless advocate for Canada’s media sector, positioning Canadian programming at the forefront in world markets and regularly called upon to present the CMF model internationally.

A true trailblazer, Valerie has worked to enrich television production and digital media in Canada for nearly four decades. Her unwavering commitment to building an industry that is truly representative of Canada has led her to launch and support countless programs and initiatives that break down barriers and systemic inequities, notably including playing a key role in establishing Canada’s Indigenous Screen Office.

Valerie’s efforts to promote gender equality in media are well-known and celebrated; from her concrete changes to the CMF’s funding guidelines and policies to a commitment to gender parity on all juries that are put in place to evaluate projects, Valerie has always enthusiastically made improving the industry’s gender imbalance a priority.

Among her many awards and honours, Valerie was invested into the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 2016 and the Order of Canada in 2019.  In 2022, she was recognized by The Hollywood Reporter as one of the 20 most powerful women in global entertainment, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Regina, and the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal from the province of Saskatchewan.

Don’t miss the chance to celebrate Valerie Creighton and be part of this exciting new Canadian event taking place on Thursday, May 30 at the Park Hyatt Toronto. As previously announced, Kim Cattrall will receive the ICON Award, Devery Jacobs will receive the Impact Award, Deepa Mehta will receive the Equity in Entertainment Award, and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau will be featured in an exclusive Keynote Interview.
